Police Endorse Boulet as Guillory Makes False Claims

LAFAYETTE, LA — Just one day after Josh Guillory's campaign released a false ad lying about Monique Blanco Boulet’s (R-Lafayette) commitment to fully funding law enforcement and protecting our families, a statewide police organization responded by endorsing Boulet.

The Professional Association of Law Enforcement Officers — a revered organization formed to assist and support members of the law enforcement community throughout the State of Louisiana — issued a resolution containing its endorsement Tuesday. After a series of public safety missteps by Guillory, including massive cuts to public safety, law enforcement is getting behind Boulet.

"I'm particularly proud to have the formal endorsement from our police officers as I continue to stand with law enforcement to combat Lafayette's rising crime crisis," said Boulet. "One big reason I stepped up to run for Mayor-President is that our current Mayor-President has utilized law enforcement for personal services rather than to serve and protect our families."

The decision to endorse Monique Boulet comes after careful consideration of the current challenges faced by the Lafayette City Police Department and the community. In it's endorsement, the Association noted that current Mayor-President, Josh Guillory, has taken actions disruptive to the leadership within the Lafayette City Police Department, resulting in unstable leadership with six different police chiefs in less than four years. The Association also expressed concern about the suppression of public records and a loss of public trust during Guillory's leadership. The full resolution is included below.

"In addition to these actions which directly affect the public and members within the law enforcement community, under Guillory's leadership the office of the Mayor-President has come into disrepute," the resolution reads.

Lafayette residents have expressed concerns about rising crime and the allocation of adequate resources to address the threats. The Association acknowledges these concerns and has taken a proactive stance in endorsing Monique Boulet to bring about positive change in the community.

Early voting is Nov. 3-11, and Election Day is Nov. 18.
